In GO each Friday, we ask you a food question, and we run readers’ answers every Wednesday in GO. This week: Which local restaurant has the best breakfast?
We got unprecedented response!:
Carissa McClure, Rockford: “The best breakfast inRockford during the week is at Cracker Barrel. They have terrificbiscuits and real butter. On Sundays the best breakfast is at ThunderBay Grille. For a very reasonable price of $9.99 you get a huge varietyof dishes including a fresh salad bar.”

The food is great, andthe owners at both places are great. They are very friendly, and makeyou feel right at home, and deliver great service. Of course, if wewant a buffet for breakfast, we go to Old Country Buffet.”
Rynn Johnson, Rockford: “My favorite breakfast placeis Stockholm Inn for sure! Great food, great service, great price, great place to get together with family and friends.”

Benton in Winnebago. … FromPecatonica to northern Wisconsin and almost everywhere else I go,Winnebago Family Restaurant has the only Potato Pancakes I will eat.I’ll order three. And I don’t murder them with anything other thanapplesauce and sour cream.”
Sarah Herschlag, Roscoe: Pat’s Cafe in Loves Park. Very clean!”
Ron Gottschalk, Rockford: “We moved to Rockfordin October 2006 and tried to find a good breakfast restaurant. We werenot successful until Egg Harbor came to town. The Harbor providesexcellent, creative and fresh breakfasts as well as tantalizinglunches. Egg Harbor has brought a ray of sunshine to the Rock RiverValley with friendly staff and a inviting atmosphere. You are notrushed and given a cup of your favorite beverage to take with you soyou can continue the good feeling of your meal. They will bend overbackward to meet any reasonable request for changes to a menu item tosuit your taste or desire. Four stars.”
Vickie Fogel, Rockford: “Johnny Pamcakes on E. State Street — YUMMMMM!”
Heather Markhardt, Rockford: “The best breakfastin town (or that I have ever had, for that matter) is Egg Harbor atEdgebrook! Simply delicious and amazing. Whoever thought to serveavocado, bacon, eggs and sour cream together is a genius!”

Irated it 5 stars: ‘I want to say that even though the Create Your OwnSkillet with Monterey jack and Cheddar cheeses and cream cheese soundsdisgusting to most people, I find it the most scrumptious breakfast Ihave ever had in my life. And for those who are in disbelief at how itdoesn’t sound good, try one and you’ll be amazed at how good itactually is. I generally get that every time I go to Egg Harbor. …’”

Commenters on go.rrstar.com chimed in, too:
dennyjohnson: Stockholm Inn, voted Rockford’s bestbreakfast restaurant with its world-famous Swedish pancakes.Award-winning waffles and top-voted coffee, too.”
rda: I would recommend 3B’s Cafe off Ralston Road inMachesney Park. Great food for the buck and the girls are some of thenicest in the business. I love the ham, eggs and (biscuits and gravy).
paulhandlin2002: The best breakfast in town is withouta doubt The Stockholm Inn! All you have to do is go in there on aweekend morning and you will see. Really any morning, for that matter. It’s a busy restaurant for a reason!
busybee: I really like the egg bake at Stockholm Inn.It is homemade (which so much of their food is) and it comes with freshfruit and a muffin or toast. They have more than just plain wheatbread, they have oat bran, which is good. Our girls like the miniwaffles, which they can decorate. My husband loves their Swedishpancakes. The fresh OJ is the best; new mural rooms are so neat.
tgoeddeke: Stockholm Inn gets 5 stars for their shortstack Swedish Pancakes with Lingonberries. They have excellent serviceand servers that are willing to go that extra mile to make happycustomers.
hokumboy: Morning Glory on 7th (in Rockford) is a nice spot, and I’ve heard Johnny Pamcakes on East State is quite good too.
Domino McLee: 5 Coins Restaurant & Pancake Houseon Sandy Hollow just west of Alpine. It is in a newer strip mall. It ismy favorite breakfast joint by far.
cwj4: Our family enjoys going to the Stockholm Inn forbreakfast! We have been going their since we were kids and it hascreated a lot of great memories for our family! Love their blueberrywaffles and Swedish pancakes; the fresh orange juice is great.
janh: Stockholm Inn has some of the best omelets around. Haven’t had a bad breakfast yet.
And we got some feedback on go.rrstar.com on last week’s mac and cheese story:
gosobos: Oh try the mac and cheese at Panera. It is awesome. Made with white Cheddar.
scottphillips: A bit of useless info: Here in theSouth where we have something called the “meat and three,” a restaurantwhere you can pick one meat and three veggies for one price, mac &cheese is an institution. And at any meat and three, mac & cheeseis considered a vegetable.
